Saved at a Gospel Meeting
I came from a non-Christian family initially. The first time I had any contact with a church was in October 1951 when I was 11 years old. Founded by our late Pastor Phoa Hock Seng, Pasir Panjang Christ Church (PPCC), was also the residence of our late Pastor and his family.

As the church was closer to Pasir Panjang Primary School at that time, I was invited to stay at church with the invitation of Pastor Phoa. I stayed in the church for two years and even though I attended all the church services including prayer meetings, I was not saved then. After two years, I returned to live with my parents and my siblings (11 of us eight brothers and three sisters. I was the eldest.) at Jurong. My siblings and I continued to attend PPCC Sunday School and I also attended the other church services as well.

It was three years later in 1956 when I attended an evening Gospel Meeting that I realised I was indeed a sinner and needed a Saviour. I must thank the Lord for His wonderful love, grace and mercy He has showered upon me. At that Gospel Meeting, I confessed my sins and asked Jesus to forgive all my sins and I immediately accepted Him as my Lord and personal Saviour. I was 16 years old then. In October that same year, I was baptised and started to teach Sunday School at PPCC. I also served in the Church Youth Fellowship Committee.

Serving God at PPCC
In 1968, I married my wife Evelyn at PPCC and God gave us two sons Alan and Bernard. Praise the Lord for the additions to my family. In January 1981, I was then elected as a Deacon of PPCC and I served in the Church Council. In the same year, I became a member of the Church Board of Trustees (BOT) and until a few years ago, I was elected Chairman of BOT. In November 1992, I was elected as an Elder of the Church Council and subsequently elected as its Alternate Chairman.

As an Elder I was given more responsibilities by the Pastor, such as preaching at English Worship Services, Sunset Services and chairing and sharing at the English Prayer Meetings and visitation ministry. In 1995, I started to serve as Chairman of PPCC Mission Committee and participated in Mission Teams that preach the Gospel and conducted Daily Vacation Bible Schools in India, Thailand and the Philippines.

In 1996, my elder son Alan was married to his wife Celia at PPCC and God gave them three children, a daughter named Ariel, a son Asaph and another son Cyrus. I praise and thank God for more additions to the LIM family.

In May 2002, after I had retired from my secular job, I started to serve in one of our church's ministry at Ju Eng Home for Senior Citizens at Jalan Kayu on Wednesday afternoons. I also join the church members who go witnessing and tracting every last Sunday of the month.

The reason why I want to serve the Lord is because I want to obey God's commandments and to show my love for Jesus Christ. And by doing all this, I hope to honour and glorify God.

Healed of Nasal Cancer
In October 2003, I was diagnosed with nasal cancer but I never gave up my faith in God. I prayed to the Lord to heal me and after two months of outpatient medical treatment at NUH; God healed me of my cancer. Praise the Lord again! During my sickness, I continued to serve the Lord faithfully and never missed teaching our Sunday School class (which I shared with my wife); and never missed attending English Worship Services or English Prayer Meetings. I must thank the Lord for preserving my life so that I can serve Him as long as He wants me to do so.

I wish to encourage every Church member to serve the Lord in one way or another in any of the ministries in our Church . I wish to share with you a Bible verse which has been a constant blessing and encouragement to me as I serve the Lord.

1 Cor 15:58 "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord Amen."
